The new Arduino Nano

Hello, there, little guy. The new Arduino board’s just been outed, and it’s not kidding about the ‘nano’ part.

The Arduino Nano 3 boasts an ATMEGA328, breadboard capabilities plus Mini USB support built-in, and a bunch of other tweaks — like moving the power LED to the top — have been made in the interest of saving energy and space.

Other features of this new kid on the block include an automatic reset during program download, auto sensing / switching power input, ICSP header for direct program download, and a manual reset switch. Hit up the source link for a bit more info… or to get ordering!

An optional update to Windows closes a number of hacks that counterfeiters have used to bypass the product activation technologies built into Windows 7. With the update, Windows will try to restore Windows to its proper state, as well as marking tampered versions as non-genuine copies of the operating system.

Microsoft said on Thursday that it is planning an update to Windows 7 that will close a number of loopholes that counterfeiters had used to thwart the operating system’s built-in anti-piracy measures.

Not even a fortnight after we saw Android 2.0.1 slapped onto Sony Ericsson’s all-but-forgotten Xperia X1, along comes a port that makes the other look like child’s play.

A dedicated coder over at XDA Developers has managed to stuff Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 onto an X1, and while the functionality is limited (as you’d expect), the amount of fun to be had is restrained only by your imagination (and available vacation time).

Go on and peek that source link to join the discussion — but be warned, you’ll be sucking down over a gigabyte worth of data before the first installation process.

Hotmail attack deletes contacts and emails

The attack against Hotmail results in outgoing spam and the loss of all contacts and most sent e-mail.

Reports are circulating the web of a Hotmail crack resulting in the loss of saved e-mails and users’ entire contacts list, along with spam being sent out from the affected accounts.

Following a tip-off from Spotibot developer Andy Smith – who has first-hand experience of the phenomenon, having provided support to a family member affected by the crack – evidence of a co-ordinated attack against Hotmail users which aims to take over accounts and use them to send out spam for Chinese-based electronics websites has been uncovered.

Multitouch on the Nexus One without waiting

As I mentioned last night, Google have released an official update for the Nexus One that enables multitouch on the Nexus One. This is an over-the-air update that should be pushed to all Nexus handsets but the problem is it’s a gradual process so you just have to wait for your handset to tell you that the update is available.

If, like me, you hate waiting for something like this and want multitouch right now then there’s an option where you can download an update ZIP file and apply this through the recovery mode on the handset. You do not need an unlocked or ‘rooted’ handset to be able to do this and the good news is that it wont wipe any of your existing data!

How to enable Windows 7 God Mode

Did you know Windows 7 has a God mode?

It sounds cooler than it is in reality – you’re not invulnerable to BSODs, and the system doesn’t play One of Us when it starts up.

That said, it’s not completely useless either – it gives you a shortcut to all the options in Control Panel and allows you to easily get to usually buried controls.

To enable God Mode, you must first grow a big white beard. Then:

Create a new folder, and call it: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
